Two models work in practice — a confirmed group coach with a regional organiser, or a ticket to Mineralnye Vody with an ElbrusTransfer to Terskol.

Mountain Guide sells the accommodation, the rental included and the organisational module. If the coach is arranged by a Rostov company, that company remains the seller of the transport element. This division has to be visible in the contract, in the payment and in the refund terms.

Why a Rostov weekend often takes four calendar days

To start on Friday morning, a group may have to leave on Thursday. After the Sunday programme the journey continues overnight or requires another night. So the advertised “3 days” describes the ground product, not necessarily the time from leaving home to getting back.

The seller has to show the full timeline. A long overnight journey must not be disguised by the words “transfer included” without pick-up points, stops, vehicle and times.

Model A: an organised coach

Check the current 2026/27 winter calendar by telephone, not from an old web page.

Establish the exact pick-up point in Rostov and the intermediate towns.

Obtain the details of the legal seller and of the payee.

Check the type of coach, the luggage allowance, the drivers and the stops.

Find out the minimum group size and what happens if it is not reached.

Match the arrival time against the equipment handover and the first lesson.

A coach partner can use the Mountain Guide net ground rate. Its strong winter offer is this: the client does not carry skis or a snowboard, because the main set is already waiting in Terskol.

Model B: via Mineralnye Vody

The client chooses a train or a flight to the KMV region themselves. An ElbrusTransfer is then confirmed. The official guide figure to the resort is about 190 km from Mineralnye Vody airport, but the time depends on the road and on conditions.

For the vehicle we need the flight, the time, the number of people, child seats, the volume of luggage and the return flight. The limit on waiting for a delay is fixed in advance. A ticket with a minimal connection saves time only for as long as everything runs perfectly.

Model C: your own car

This gives flexibility, but the driver takes the main strain. An overnight drive and a first day at altitude are a poor combination. It makes sense to split the journey, arrive for an extra night, or have a relief driver.

Parking is confirmed with the specific property. For a winter trip, road requirements and the condition of the car are checked. Mountain Guide does not assess a driver’s preparation and does not guarantee journey times.

The two-day product: when it does work

Two days are sensible for a closed group with organised overnight transport and a precise arrival time, or for a guest who has arrived on Friday. Without that the travelling becomes longer than the break itself and depends far too much on a single delay.

The basic package covers one night and equipment for two calendar days. The working price is from RUB 8,100 excluding the long journey. Agency commission is capped at 7%, because a large share of the price is rental with no additional mark-up.

The three-day product: our main recommendation

Friday builds in a margin. If you arrive early there is time for the handover and a first lesson; if you arrive late, at least you can prepare for Saturday. The working enhanced price is from RUB 22,100; a coach partner is quoted without the MRV transfer.

For a group of beginners, accredited instructors are assigned in advance. One specialist is not promised to a large mixed group without a limit on numbers.

A week: less pressure from the journey

A week-long trip makes the travel costs more worthwhile and leaves a flexible day. It includes six nights and equipment for seven calendar days. The working guide price is from RUB 54,200 without a lift pass.

For a group coach, the week-long format requires a check on drivers’ hours and on where the vehicle will be kept. Sometimes separate transfers at the beginning and end are cheaper than leaving a coach idle; the carrier does that calculation.

How to line up the handover time

Arrival

What can realistically be done

How the rental is counted

Before the morning of the start

Check in the day before, start as scheduled

Calendar days of the trip

In the morning

Handover with time to spare, skiing after the check

A full calendar day

In the afternoon

Prepare for the next day; ski if there is time

The day is blocked out in any case

Late in the evening

Check in and rest

An individual reduction only if agreed in advance

Departure: do not put the coach straight after the last lift

The group returns the equipment, changes, collects its luggage and gathers at one point. The coach time is communicated to everybody. One late traveller can hold up dozens of people, so a cut-off for the last lift is set in advance.

For a train or a flight the margin has to cover the whole journey to the terminal. An early return ticket may rule out skiing on Sunday — and that is shown before payment.

The partner model for Rostov

A travel agency can sell the standard product on 10% commission for the three-day and seven-day trips. The organiser of a closed group of eight or more may receive 12%; up to 15% is discussed from 12 people upwards, after a check on the cost price and on the partner’s role.

If a partner sells the coach separately, its margin is not mixed with Mountain Guide commission. The client gets clear payments and a party responsible for each part.

What to collect from every traveller

Full name and rooming details.

Pick-up point or flight details.

Skis or snowboard, height, weight, boot size, ability and stance.

Whether an instructor, helmet, goggles and clothing are needed.

The ages of any children and child seats in the transfer.

Insurance and any personal medical limitations, to the extent required.

A contact in case of delay.

In short: from Rostov, sell the full timeline. Three days in Terskol is a strong product provided the journey is named and arranged separately.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a confirmed coach from Rostov?

We are compiling and re-checking regional organisers. A particular winter service counts as confirmed only once there is a date, a contract and a telephone call.

Can I travel by train?

You can build a route to the KMV region and book an ElbrusTransfer. The timetable and the ticket are checked with the carrier.

How many days is best?

Three is the main short format, seven copes best with a long journey. Two demands very precise logistics.

Is rental included?

Yes, the main set for every calendar day of the ground programme, once the form has been completed.

Who refunds the money if the coach is cancelled?

The transport seller, under its own terms. Mountain Guide ground services are governed by a separate confirmation.

What to check before you set off

Mountain infrastructure and conditions change. No article replaces checking which pistes are open, whether the lifts are running, the weather and any restrictions immediately before the trip.

Getting there: the resort’s official section

Piste status

Resort rules

Choosing a programme

First choose the length and the date. Before payment we confirm the accommodation, the rental set and every additional service ordered. The main set of skis or snowboard is counted for each calendar day of the programme.

A three-day ground trip for guests from Rostov

A 2-day trip

The week-long trip

For a quotation, give the dates, the number of guests, the ages of any children, skiing ability, height, weight and boot size. You can send an enquiry through Mountain Guide contacts.

The full timeline of a Rostov trip

Point in time

By coach

Via KMV

Thursday

Boarding and the overnight drive

Train or flight on the ticket chosen

Friday

Arrival, handover, the first plan

ElbrusTransfer and arrival

Saturday

A full day

A full day

Sunday

Skiing until the cut-off, then the overnight drive

Skiing around the flight, then the transfer

Monday

Possible arrival home in the morning

Depends on the ticket

This table matters more than the advertising figure “3”. An employer, a family and the client all need to know when the traveller will actually be back.

Tiredness after an overnight coach

Even if a traveller slept sitting up, recovery is individual. The first outing starts with a simple plan. A beginners’ lesson is not scheduled immediately after the estimated arrival with no margin.

The coach driver and the traveller are under different regimes of responsibility. The seller checks that the transport is legal, but does not promise that every passenger will have slept well.

A Rostov office agent and a coach organiser

An ordinary travel agency can sell the finished product on commission, but is not obliged to organise a service itself. A coach company or a tour operator can take the net ground rate and assemble a single package.

These segments are kept apart in the database. A universal letter keeps the same core, but the call to action differs: commission and ready-made product cards for an agent, an allocation and the ground module for a carrier.

Several travellers flying in via KMV

If a group arrives at different times, a common waiting limit is set. Sometimes two vehicles cost less than the whole group losing its Friday. The calculation is shown before payment.

Return flights are grouped in the same way. The earliest ticket should not automatically dictate the departure for everyone if separate transport can be booked.

Luggage on an overnight journey

The main set is not carried — it is included.

Your own ski bag only after confirmation.

Documents and medication stay with you.

Clothing for the first morning is reachable without unloading the whole coach.

Luggage is labelled.

The carrier’s limits are known before payment.

This arrangement means you can arrive and start the handover without a long sort-through of belongings.

If the coach is cancelled but the room is confirmed

The partner first offers replacement transport under its own rules. Mountain Guide checks whether the ground element can be kept or moved. There is no automatic full refund with no conditions attached.

To reduce the risk, the deadline for filling the coach is set before the hotel becomes non-refundable. That is an operational matter for the contract between the partners.

The first partner departure

Start with a single date and a limited group. Afterwards, compare the actual arrival, the handover time, the cost price of the transport, refunds, reviews and how the codes performed. Only then open a regular calendar.

That test matters more than promising a weekly coach that does not yet exist. What remains weekly is the Mountain Guide ground dates; the journey is attached through a confirmed channel.

What to measure for Rostov

Enquiries for the 3-day and 7-day trips.

The transport model chosen.

The town or pick-up point.

The proportion of beginners.

The average group size.

How many enquiries were lost because of the coach.

Actual commission and margin.

These fields are added to the form and to the order. They will help decide whether a regular partner service of our own is needed next season.

The Rostov form and the duration filter

The first question after the town is how many days the person is prepared to be away from home, journey included. That separates the client who wants 3 days in Terskol from the one who has three calendar days for the whole trip.

The manager does not argue, but shows the timeline and offers a realistic format.

A relief driver in a chartered minibus

Whether there is a second driver, and their hours, is confirmed by the carrier. A travel company does not claim them without documentation. The price may differ from a private transfer.

Road safety must not be the line item you economise on.

The night before Friday

On the route via KMV you can arrive on Thursday and book an extra night. That reduces the risk of losing Friday and makes the lesson dependable.

The night is confirmed separately; rental starts from the date of the programme unless it is booked earlier.

Partner quality control

The coach arrived as planned.

Luggage was accepted.

The passenger lists matched.

The handover ran in waves.

Boarding for the return went without losses.

Refunds were processed.

After the pilot, the partner and Mountain Guide sign off a corrected operating procedure.

When to turn down the short format

If the journey does not leave two full weekend days, if the instructor is not confirmed, or if the group arrives after midday on Friday, it is better to offer the week or a different date. Selling at any cost produces a bad review and the loss of a partner.

An example of turning down two days from Rostov

A group wants to leave after work on Friday and be back on Sunday evening. They physically cannot get two days in Terskol. The manager does not sell the product card just to book the enquiry, but offers the three-day ground trip with a Thursday departure, or another date.

If their leave does not allow it, an honest refusal is better than a dispute over a hidden timeline.

How to reach a ski trip to Elbrus from Rostov-on-Don: the overnight coach, a train
