Mountain Guide organises ascents and expeditions, shows you the team before you buy and has been working on Elbrus since 2001.<\/strong> Even so, choosing a company on the strength of its age, attractive photographs and a summit success rate is still the wrong approach. It is far more useful to check who carries the obligations under the contract, who will actually lead the group, how acclimatisation and spare days are arranged, what happens if you have to turn back, and whether you can see the accommodation, the equipment and the full cost of the trip in advance.<\/p>\n

On this page we have gathered arguments you can verify. No „uniquely unique“ claims, no guarantee of the summit and no attempt to convince you that one route suits everybody. The mountain is quick to punish over-confident advertising; there is no reason to start that relationship on a website.<\/p>\n

The table is no substitute for reading the contract and the page for the particular tour. The guide ratio, the number of spare days, the accommodation and the rules on repeat attempts all depend on the programme. The all-purpose phrase „everything is included“ usually means only that the details will have to be tracked down later.<\/p>\n

A tour operator, not an anonymous shop window<\/h2>\n

Gorny Gid LLC is entered in the Unified Federal Register of Tour Operators under the number RTO 024541<\/strong>. The company’s registration details are published on the contacts<\/a> page. The current register entry<\/a> confirms the status „Entered“; the underlying historical decision can be checked in the order of the Ministry of Economic Development<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A register number on its own does not make the weather good or a guide attentive. It answers a different but important question: which legal entity puts the travel product together and carries the responsibility the law imposes. Before paying, it is worth checking that the same entity appears on the tour page, in the contract, on the invoice and on the payment receipt.<\/p>\n

Guides you can see before the trip<\/h2>\n

The phrase „experienced guides“ proves nothing until there are people behind it. We publish the profiles of the Mountain Guide guides<\/a>, their experience and the areas they work in. For demanding, high-altitude programmes this matters especially: you need to understand not only the seller’s brand but the calibre of the team that takes decisions on the route.<\/p>\n

On Elbrus the lead guide takes the group through the programme, assesses acclimatisation and decides the tactics for the ascent. On summit day assistant guides may join the group in the ratio stated on the tour page. The number of guides does not mean that a large group automatically becomes several independent mini-groups: the order of movement is decided by the lead guide.<\/p>\n

Why eight-thousander experience matters but does not settle everything<\/h3>\n

Experience on eight-thousanders shows that a guide is familiar with altitude, expedition logistics and difficult decisions. But for a client on Elbrus another kind of experience matters just as much: hundreds of days that look identical at first glance, the ability to notice a change of pace, not to miss symptoms, to organise a turnaround and to explain the decision to somebody who has already mentally set a summit photograph as their phone wallpaper.<\/p>\n

Working on Elbrus since 2001<\/h2>\n

We use the wording „since 2001“ rather than „24 years of experience“, which goes out of date every year. Over that time the cable cars, the huts, the state of the routes, the means of communication, the park rules and clients‘ expectations have all changed. What has not changed is the central principle: altitude is under no obligation to respect sporting honours, the price of a tour or a very strong wish to reach the top.<\/p>\n

Accumulated experience is needed not for the sake of an impressive number but for practical decisions: how to build acclimatisation, when to slow the group down, which equipment really works in the wind, how much time to leave for the descent and at what point to end an attempt. Not one „best route“ but a range of programmes<\/h2>\n

Elbrus can be climbed from the south, the north and the west; you can make a traverse, go to one summit or both, stay in a hotel and a hut, or take part in a self-sufficient tented expedition. Selling all of that as a single product with a different backdrop in the photograph would be convenient only for the seller.<\/p>\n
