A motorcycle tour of Ladakh is a high-altitude journey on ordinary roads, not a run round a closed circuit.<\/strong> The rider has to keep track of the surface, the traffic, the dust, the weather, the altitude and their own fatigue all at once. Handsome photographs of the passes do not show the real work: hour after hour of precise riding with your concentration held.<\/p>\n

The name Royal Enfield describes the character of the journey, but the exact model, specification, deposit and procedure for swapping a machine are confirmed before departure. Those terms cannot be inferred from a photograph or an old trip report.<\/p>\n

What riding experience you need<\/h2>\n

Before booking, the rider states how long they have held a licence, which categories it covers, the machines they usually ride and their experience off tarmac. You need to be able to pull away confidently on a slope, turn round in a confined space, brake on a loose surface and handle a bike with luggage. Short trips round town on their own are not enough.<\/p>\n

Useful preparation includes long days in the saddle, slow-speed manoeuvring, riding standing on the pegs and braking on gravel. Train in full protective kit: boots, gloves or a helmet that do not fit become a problem quickly, and Ladakh is a bad place to discover it.<\/p>\n

The first 48 hours in Leh<\/h2>\n

The official Ladakh tourism portal requires at least 48 hours of rest for acclimatisation after landing in Leh before travelling to higher districts. That period is not something to replace with an unsupported outing of your own. At altitude a headache, weakness and disturbed sleep can dull your attention, and on a motorcycle a mistake costs more than it would on a quiet walk.<\/p>\n

The plan for the first days is built without chasing passes. If a rider begins to feel worse, they stop gaining height and tell the group leader.
