Participants climb the West summit of Elbrus, 5642 m, by the classic southern route, then cross the mountain and descend its northern slope.

Programme price — $2 030.

The defining feature of the programme is the chance to cross Elbrus and see two completely different sides of the mountain. The southern slope allows the use of the cable car, the high-mountain shelter and the developed infrastructure of the Elbrus region; after the summit the route continues on the northern side, away from the main flow of visitors.

The traverse suits participants who want a fuller experience than a standard ascent with a return to the south. You need to be ready for a long summit day, for the descent of the northern glacier, for moving in roped parties and for more self-supported conditions after the summit.

The key strength of the programme is the Mountain Guide team. On a traverse, choosing the right departure time, judging the state of the glacier, organising roped travel and deciding whether the route can continue to the north all matter especially. We name the specialists who lead our groups and who take the decisions on the route.

The number of group attempts within the days provided by the programme is not limited. If the whole group did not start, or had to turn back because of the weather, a repeat group attempt within the programme carries no extra charge. If part of the group reaches the summit, the ascent counts as completed and additional attempts for the remaining participants are paid separately.

Before the high-altitude section the group stays at a hotel in the Elbrus region. During the mountain part accommodation is in shelters on Elbrus, with catering provided: hot meals, fresh meat, vegetables and fruit.

All traverses published in the dates and prices section run with a minimum group size of two participants.

For partners, family and friends who want to spend the holiday with you but are not climbing, a separate recreation programme in the Elbrus region can be arranged, with accommodation, walks and excursions.

Would you prefer to traverse Elbrus with your own group only? We arrange a private Elbrus ascent on convenient dates subject to guide availability, and the acclimatisation schedule, the number of reserve days, the team and the additional services can all be adapted.

Important

Participants carry the food for the high-altitude section themselves. This is a standard feature of how ascents of Elbrus from the south are organised. The food travels up by cable car with the group and is moved onwards by snowcat; it only has to be carried by hand over short sections of no more than 20 m.

All published departures run with a minimum group size of two participants.

Any departure from the shelter on summit day counts as a summit attempt.

[320,330,355

post-13849","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_cat-climbing","product_cat-climb-elbrus","product_cat-only-mount","first","instock","shipping-taxable","purchasable","product-type-simple

<!--
