Participants climb the West summit of Elbrus, 5642 m, by the northern route, cross the mountain and descend to the south.

The defining feature of the programme is the chance to cross Elbrus, starting the ascent far from cable cars and resort infrastructure and coming out after the summit to the high-mountain shelters and the cable car of the southern slope.

The route suits participants who want the experience of gaining altitude under their own power on the northern side, of gradual acclimatisation and of a long ascent, but who prefer a more comfortable end to the programme after the summit. Tent accommodation is not required: the nights are spent in shelters.

The key strength of the programme is the Mountain Guide team. On the northern side, judging the state of the glacier correctly, organising roped travel, choosing the pace and monitoring how participants feel all matter especially.

The number of group attempts within the days provided by the programme is not limited. If the whole group did not start, or had to turn back because of the weather, a repeat group attempt within the programme carries no extra charge. If part of the group reaches the summit, the ascent counts as completed and additional attempts for the remaining participants are paid separately.

During the mountain part the group lives in shelters on Elbrus. After the ascent participants descend to an equipped shelter on the southern slope, where they can rest and recover after a long summit day.

All traverses published in the dates and prices section run with a minimum group size of two participants.

For partners, family and friends who want to spend the holiday with you but are not climbing, a separate recreation programme in the Elbrus region can be arranged, with accommodation, walks and excursions.

Would you prefer to traverse Elbrus from north to south with your own group only? We arrange a private Elbrus ascent on convenient dates subject to guide availability, and the pace, the acclimatisation schedule, the number of reserve days and the additional services can all be adapted.

Important

All published departures run with a minimum group size of two participants.

Any departure from the shelter on summit day counts as a summit
