 Climbing Elbrus<\/b> is an excellent option for a first encounter with the mountains. This climb is quite easy and supported by comfortable conditions, and the lack of climbing experience will be compensated by the skills of a professional guide.<\/p>

The Elbrus can be climbed from four different sides. However, the southern route is considered the easiest. There’s a good reason for this: you don’t have to carry a rucksack full of food and fuel to the summit camp – you can take it up by cable car. You can also take the option of a snowcat ride on the day of the summit instead of climbing 2000m.<\/p>

And if you want to diversify and intensify your Elbrus climbing experience, you can opt for the Elbrus Cross – a south to north traverse that involves summiting both peaks and two sides of the mountain.<\/p>

The only difference between these routes is the day of ascent, which requires different logistics for each route.<\/p>

Climbing Elbrus from the north is not the best option for a first-time climber. According to the climbing rules, the summit camp should be set up on the rocks of Lents – something that not every first-time climber is really prepared for. On the other hand, experienced climbers will be able to cope with this north-south traverse, especially if their Elbrus ascent is training for more difficult climbs such as Lenin Peak, Khan-Tengri, Muztag-Ata, Mount Blanc and others.<\/p>

Climbing Elbrus from the east is even more challenging: climbers have to carry several days’ worth of camp supplies themselves, as well as dealing with the numerous crevasses. This route implies total autonomy for about 10 days, without refuges and without additional mechanical or infrastructural support. This ascent can rarely be combined with a descent on another route due to the difficulty of moving the camp to and from the summit. Climbing Elbrus from the East is more like mountain tourism than climbing.<\/p>

Climbing Elbrus from the west is only for those who have experience of climbing over 5000m and have at least basic rock climbing skills. This route offers a wide range of mountaineering challenges and is a good training spot for Denali, Matterhorn and Kenya climbs.<\/p>

The Elbrus ascent from the north <\/a> <\/strong>is made to the western peak of Elbrus via two routes – through the Lenz rocks and directly to the saddle. It is difficult for beginners, as it is necessary to climb 2000 metres in one day, while on all other Elbrus routes and mountains of the world this number is at least twice less. Before the summit date the program is identical to 9 days program, but on the summit day you will have to carry in your backpack a little bit more things because your descent will bring you to the Northern side of Elbrus, where you have to be roped. Also it\u2019s good to have jogging shoes with you for lower part of the route and moving back to the South.<\/p>
