A family trip is built not round a promise that “children are welcome” but round a particular child: age, height, weight, boot size, experience, ability to follow instructions, the right instructor, the equipment and the rhythm of rest. Adults and children are under no obligation to ski as one group.
Mountain Guide confirms the accommodation, the child or adult set, the protective kit, the meals and the lessons in advance. The official family infrastructure and its rules are checked on the resort’s own site. An age figure printed on a product is not a substitute for a professional’s decision.
Age is only the first field on the form
| What we need to know | Why | Who decides |
|---|---|---|
| Age | The format of the lesson and the rules of the area | Instructor / resort |
| Height, weight, boot size | The child’s set | The hire shop, after a fitting |
| Experience | The teaching task and the group | Instructor |
| State of health | Whether the effort is advisable | Parent and doctor |
| Independence | Ability to follow instructions | Parent and professional |
| Sleep and meal routine | How long the day can be | The family |
Two children of the same age may be ready for different programmes. Nobody can promise them the same outcome or put them in one group purely by year of birth.
Choosing the length
Two days suit a family who already know how their child responds to the kit and who can arrive early. For a first visit three days are better: Friday takes the fitting and the first lesson, and the weekend is left for practice.
A week gives flexibility and a recovery day, but it needs a willingness not to ski every day. A child should not have to “earn back” the price of the package. If they are tired, the family plan changes.
Children’s hire
A basic child’s ski or snowboard set costs RUB 1,200 per calendar day. It includes the equipment and boots for the discipline, and poles for skis. A helmet and goggles are RUB 200 a day each and are confirmed separately.
Buying boot size “to grow into” is not an acceptable strategy. The boot is judged on fit, and the hire shop sets the bindings. The form comes in beforehand, but the fitting is what settles it.
Clothing and a supply of dry things
- A layer system you can adjust.
- A helmet and goggles that fit it.
- Dry spare gloves.
- Socks that suit, without rucks.
- Face protection and sun cream.
- Ordinary warm clothes for the journey and the evening.
A jacket, trousers, a suit and some of the protective kit can be hired. That a child’s size is available is confirmed before payment. The parent checks that the child can say for themselves when they are cold, in pain or uncomfortable.
An instructor for a child
You need someone who works with that age and that discipline. Before the lesson, tell them the child’s experience, language, anything particular about communication, and the goals. A parent does not take over from the instructor with advice during the lesson, but stays contactable.
The service is confirmed once an accredited instructor has been assigned and paid for. On ordinary dates the request is made at least five days in advance, and at holidays at least ten.
A private lesson or a children’s group
A private format is easier to fit to a child’s pace. A group can be useful and more fun if the children are close in age, level and discipline. Throwing them together for the sake of the price creates an expectation the professional cannot meet.
The maximum group size, the length, the meeting point and whether a parent stays are all fixed in advance. Being late has consequences everyone knows about beforehand.
Saby Park and the family infrastructure
The resort’s official site carries separate information about Saby Park. Before the trip, check the season, the opening hours, the age rules, the conditions of entry and its current status. An old photograph does not prove the area is open today.
Saby Park and other family areas are not automatically part of a tour. If the service is chargeable or has to be booked, the family arranges it under the rules in force, or Mountain Guide does so once it is confirmed.
Accommodation for a family
You have to specify the beds, the bathroom, the maximum occupancy, a cot if one is needed, quiet, meals and the distance to the transport. “Family room” on its own is not enough.
Panda, Alamat or a reserve property are confirmed before payment. Until there is an allocation, nobody can promise connecting rooms or a particular floor. Requests are passed on, but they become guarantees only once the property has replied.
Food and allergies
Children’s meals are ordered in advance against a specific menu or format. Allergies are reported to the caterer, but an ordinary kitchen cannot guarantee the absence of cross-contact. The parent brings a safe personal reserve.
Breakfast time is set against the lesson and the transfer. An early departure should not leave a child without food; the alternative is confirmed beforehand.
Transport and a child seat
For ElbrusTransfer, give the child’s age and measurements and say whether a seat is needed, all in advance. The vehicle, the luggage and the times are confirmed. The parent checks that what is provided meets their own requirements and the rules in force.
If the family drives itself, it confirms the parking. After an active day the driver assesses their own fatigue; an extra night may matter more than the saving.
How the adults ski separately
While a child is at a lesson, the parents know the handover point, the contact and the finishing time. They do not go somewhere they could not get back from quickly. If the family splits up, shared meeting points are agreed.
Mountain Guide does not provide childminding unless it has been expressly confirmed. An instructor is responsible for the lesson within the agreed limits, not for the child’s whole day.
The family budget
A child’s reduction is not set by an arbitrary percentage. What comes off the price is the actual difference in hire – RUB 600 per calendar day compared with an adult – plus the confirmed difference in accommodation or other services.
Helmet, goggles, instructor, meals and lift pass are counted separately. A family gets one quotation broken down by person, so that the adult and child lines are both visible.
Safety and how everyone is feeling
A child may be less good at describing a headache, cold or numbness. An adult checks regularly and does not turn “one more run” into an obligation. If things get worse, the activity stops.
The insurance has to cover a child’s skiing, the territory and the altitude. A parent reads the exclusions rather than relying on the name of the product.
A family checklist before paying
- Choose the length and the travel days.
- Confirm the room and the beds.
- Fill in the forms for children and adults.
- Have the instructors assigned.
- Confirm helmets, goggles and clothing.
- Agree the meals and the transport with a child seat.
- Read the cancellation terms and the insurance.
In short: a family product works better when the child has their own logic for the day, rather than a scaled-down copy of the adult programme.
Frequently asked questions
From what age is it possible?
There is no universal answer. Age is set against the rules of the area, the child’s readiness and the instructor’s decision.
Is there children’s hire kit?
Yes, a basic set at RUB 1,200 per calendar day; the size is confirmed once the form is in.
Can I leave my child with the instructor?
For the duration of a confirmed lesson, on the professional’s terms. It is not a childminding service for the whole day.
Is there a family area?
The resort publishes information about Saby Park; its current hours and conditions are checked before the trip.
How is the child’s reduction worked out?
Only from the actual difference in children’s hire, accommodation and any other confirmed services.
What to check before you travel
Mountain infrastructure and conditions change. No article replaces checking which runs are open, whether the cable cars are working, the weather and any restrictions immediately before the trip.
Choosing a programme
First choose the length and the date. Before payment we confirm the accommodation, the hire kit and every extra service ordered. The basic ski or snowboard set is counted for each calendar day of the programme.
- A three-day family format
- A short 2-day tour
- A week with a flexible day
- Summer family trekking on request
For a quotation, give the dates, the number of guests, the children’s ages, your level, your height, your weight and your boot size. You can send the enquiry through the Mountain Guide contact page.
A family programme built round the day a child can manage, not their passport
Plan short blocks with the option of finishing early. A child may be ready for a lesson but not for a full adult day. Lunch together and a meeting point matter more than trying to get everyone on the same run.
Parents agree in advance who stays contactable when the child’s lesson ends. The instructor does not become a childminder once the agreed time is up.
Bringing a grandparent who does not ski
That is possible if the accommodation, the meals and the transport suit. Someone who is not skiing need not pay for hire kit; their share is worked out individually before booking.
Nobody can promise an entertainment programme for a companion unless it has been confirmed. What they get is information about the base and the official options available.
Two children at different levels
They can be separated by lesson. One adult should not be supervising two children in different areas at the same time. Handover points, contacts and finishing times are all fixed.
A joint family package does not mean a joint instructor. The price of a lesson changes with the actual configuration.
A family room or two rooms
Compare the beds, the bathroom, the quiet and the cost. Two standard rooms are sometimes more comfortable than one overcrowded family room. Do not choose on the name of the category alone.
For a teenager or an adult relative, a separate bed is confirmed. A folding bed and a proper bed are called by different names.
A family cancellation
A child’s illness does not guarantee a refund on every service. Check the insurance and the cancellation terms in advance. If one person does not travel, the room and the vehicle may not get any cheaper.
A substitution is allowed on the terms in force and after a new form. A child’s set cannot simply be handed on to an adult.
How to work out a family price
| Line | Adult | Child |
|---|---|---|
| Basic hire | RUB 1,800/day | RUB 1,200/day |
| Helmet | RUB 300/day | RUB 200/day |
| Goggles | RUB 300/day | RUB 200/day |
| Accommodation | By the actual property | By the property’s actual terms |
| Instructor | By format | By the children’s format |
| Lift pass | The official price | The official age category |
Working it out that way is more honest than a blanket “20% off for children”. If the property gives no reduction for a child, the tour does not invent one out of its margin without a separate decision.
The family photographs to take
- The child’s boot fitting.
- Helmet and goggles in the right size.
- The room with the beds it actually has.
- The handover to the instructor, with consent given.
- The food, without a staged promise of a menu.
- The family area, only when its status is current.
Children’s faces are published only with proper consent. You can show the process and the details without identifying anyone.
The family’s review
It helps to ask the adult about the logistics and the child – safely, through the parent – about how comfortable the kit was and how the lesson went. We do not ask a child to rate a member of staff publicly and directly.
Honest criticism about sizing or about expectations is used to fix the process, not deleted from the record.
Parental responsibility and paperwork
A parent or legal guardian signs the necessary documents and gives accurate details. If a child travels with someone else, the requirements are checked in advance.
Mountain Guide does not give a legal opinion on consent forms in an article; a particular situation is checked against the rules in force.
When a child does not want to carry on
Nobody makes them, for the sake of a lesson already paid for. The instructor and the parent choose a safe way to finish. The financial terms remain those of the contract, but health and consent to the activity come first.
That does not count as a failed trip.
Photographs and a child’s privacy
Publishing a face, a name or a video of a lesson requires proper consent. For the website, shots of the kit, of hands, of a fitting in progress and of a general scene without identifying anyone are enough.
Consent to the trip is not consent to advertising.
The family booking form
- Each child’s age.
- Height, weight, boot size.
- Experience and discipline.
- Whether an instructor is needed.
- Beds and room.
- Meals.
- A seat in the vehicle.
The form does not collect diagnoses. Any necessary limitations are discussed separately and kept to a minimum.
When a family should postpone
If there is no suitable instructor, no child’s size, no reliable road or no medical confidence, another date is chosen. A discount does not make up for a missing key resource.
An example of a three-day family plan
On Friday the child is fitted for the kit and takes a short lesson, and the parents divide the roles. On Saturday the lesson continues or the skills are consolidated, and the family meets after lunch. On Sunday the load is set by how everyone is and by the time the car leaves.
No day requires a child to match an adult’s volume. That is what makes it a family version rather than simply a discount for children.
