Why should you choose us to guide your Elbrus South to North traverse? First off, because you are going to entrust our guides to care for your very own life and health. Unfortunately, accidents do happen in the mountains, and having reliable people to safeguard and take care of you is crucial. Our hotel and our refuge on Elbrus slope – along with our own equipment and outfit rental (the newest and biggest on Elbrus foothill) – are all designed to provide for your high profile and safe rest. All expeditions mentioned in Schedule and Services section are available upon request if 2 people are in the group. We offer also programs for family vacation – rest and recreation for your family members while you are busy climbing Mount Elbrus.

Important information:
  • Any exit from the shelter on the day of the ascent is an attempt.
  • For foreign citizens, if necessary, we make guest invitations to our tours

About the tour

Any of the ascents of Elbrus from the south can be turned into a traverse of Elbrus from south to north. However, only within the framework of this program we guarantee you the cost of a group traverse, even if you are in a group alone. Any other “southern” tour to Elbrus outside of this program can also be made with a descent to the north, however, the cost of additional logistics and a guide will fall entirely on your shoulders.

The traverse of Elbrus from south to north is a fairly simple ascent that allows you to acclimatize comfortably and with sufficient quality and, at the same time, look at Elbrus from all sides, feel what walking in bundles is and what a long, long day is (although if you “cut” the southern part of the snowmobile to 5100m, then the day will be very simple). However, you need to be confident in your abilities, because you will not have to count on the help of technology from the North side of Elbrus.

We strongly recommend watching a lecture by our most experienced Elbrus guide about Elbrus.

9-day Schedule for a Guided Elbrus South to North Traverse.

Day 1. Arrival at Mineralnye Vody Airport. For those arriving before 11:30, a transfer is organized between 12:00–12:30; for those landing before 14:45, departure is scheduled for 15:15–15:30. You will enjoy a comfortable three-hour, 200 km transfer to a hotel located at the beginning of the picturesque Baksan River valley at the foot of Elbrus. Upon arrival — dinner and a briefing with the guide. Overnight at a cozy hotel.

Day 2. In the morning, our first acclimatization hike begins to the summit of Mount Cheget (3000 m). During the ascent, you will enjoy stunning views of the Caucasus Mountains. After descending on foot, we return to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel. Elevation gain: 1100 m, route length: 11 km.

Day 3. We set out on a hike to the “Maiden’s Braids” waterfall (2700 m), then continue ascending to the observatory (3100 m). This day helps ensure smooth adaptation to altitude. Return to the hotel, where you can relax. Overnight at the hotel. Elevation gain: 1200 m, route length: 13 km.

Day 4. Today we move closer to the summit. We ascend by cable car to the shelter at an altitude of 3888 m. After accommodation and a light lunch, we head out for an acclimatization hike up to 4100 m. In the evening, we return to the shelter. Overnight in the shelter. Elevation gain: 212 m, route length: 2 km.

Day 5. This day is dedicated to serious acclimatization. We ascend to the famous Pastukhov Rocks (4700 m). This is a key stage of preparation for the Elbrus ascent. After descending, we rest in the shelter. Overnight in the shelter. Elevation gain: 812 m, route length: 6 km.

Day 6. Rest day to recover strength before the main ascent. You will have time to check your equipment, focus on success, and enjoy the views. Overnight in the shelter.

Day 7. The culmination of the journey — the ascent of Elbrus (5642 m). We start early in the morning, between 2:00 and 4:00 a.m. If necessary, a snowcat may be used for the ascent up to the Pastukhov Rocks. The climb is carried out with experienced guides (ratio 1:3). After successfully reaching the summit, we descend to the northern side to the hut. Overnight in the shelter.

Day 8. Reserve day in case of bad weather. If it is not needed, we descend to Emmanuel Glade and transfer to a hotel in Terskol. If the reserve day is used, logistics are at the company’s discretion.

Day 9. Departure to the airport. We recommend choosing evening flights so that, in case of a late descent from the mountains the previous day, you can still reach the airport in the morning.
