For the May holidays the published departures are 30 April–2 May and 7–9 May for three days, 1–2 and 8–9 May for two days, and the weeks of 26 April–2 May and 3–9 May. Whether they run depends on suitable pistes and cable cars being officially open: a calendar does not promise snow, and it does not licence anyone to replace a closed area with an off-piste outing.
A spring tour differs in more than the temperature. The time of day has a much stronger effect on the surface, the sun is fiercer, and conditions in Terskol and higher up can be quite different. The programme has to stay flexible and be checked daily against the official information.

Every programme ends on a Sunday. That makes the holiday calendar easier, but you should still choose a return flight with time in hand after returning the kit and travelling out.
What “the season runs to May” means
It means that the product and the hire shop are ready to take bookings for the published dates. It is not a meteorological guarantee and not an undertaking by the resort to open a particular run. The rules on changes and cancellation are issued before payment; the status is checked before departure.
The Rock’n’Rent price list runs to 31 May 2027, so it covers every May departure. That your sizes are available is confirmed separately. The hire charge does not depend on how many runs you make and is counted by calendar days.
The spring daily cycle
Cooling overnight, sun, cloud and precipitation can all change the surface during the day. No universal time for “perfect snow” can be given. The coordinator and the group look at the actual conditions and the official restrictions each morning.
Anyone skiing independently chooses open runs at their own level. A beginner follows the instructor. A soft surface can feel friendly, but the change in speed and resistance still has to be controlled.
Sun and altitude
- Sun cream with suitable protection goes on beforehand and is reapplied as directed.
- Goggles or sunglasses have to give clear vision and real protection.
- Lip salve and covering exposed skin remain essential.
- Water and breaks are planned before you feel properly thirsty.
- Warmth at the bottom does not cancel wind and cold higher up.
Sunburn is possible in cool weather. Cloud is not adequate protection. Discuss any medical condition and your response to altitude with a doctor before the trip.
How to dress in May
A layer system remains the basis. In the morning you may need more insulation, in the afternoon more ventilation. The outer layer protects against wind and precipitation. Do not leave the jacket behind merely because the forecast for Terskol shows warm weather.
Rock’n’Rent lets you order a jacket, trousers, gloves and a suit in advance. Sizes are confirmed before payment. A dry spare pair of gloves and socks is worth having even in spring.
May hire: the same calendar-day accounting
Two days come to RUB 3,600 of market value for an adult set, three to RUB 5,400 and seven to RUB 12,600. Those sums are built into the working economics of the tour without the 1.4 coefficient. A child’s set costs RUB 1,200 a day.
If a client decides not to ski on the day of departure, the kit was blocked out for them all the same. Shortening the period for one person is arranged before confirmation, not after the event.
An instructor at the end of the season
The availability of a professional does not follow from the resort being open. An instructor is confirmed separately by discipline, level and time. The area chosen depends on the conditions on the day.
An ordinary request is made at least five days in advance. For the May holidays it is better to use the holiday lead time of at least ten. If no suitable professional is available, the “Beginner” version is not sold as guaranteed.
The journey and May traffic
Holiday traffic can affect the timings. ElbrusTransfer confirms the vehicle, the flight, the luggage and the pick-up points. The departure for the airport is planned with a margin that allows for more than the usual distance.
If you are driving yourself, check the weather, the road reports and the parking at the property you have chosen. Mountain Guide does not guarantee journey times based on an average from a navigation app.
How to choose 2, 3 or 7 days
- 2 days: if you live nearby, ski confidently and can start in the morning.
- 3 days: the main May format, with a Friday and some slack.
- 7 days: for a long journey and for flexibility, but only if you are ready to change the plan day by day.
- Beginner: any length, but only once the lesson is confirmed.
Price and holiday demand
May dates may carry a separate price if rooms and transport become dearer. The working guide price stays 8,100 / 22,100 / RUB 54,200; any supplement is confirmed against what is actually bought in. Showing a fictitious discount is not acceptable.
If the party gets smaller, the price is recalculated before payment. A guest might, for example, make their own way there and drop the group transfer. The lift pass always remains a separate official product.
If skiing is not possible
A decision by the resort to close is respected. The tour does not automatically turn into an excursion of unknown value. Substitutes are offered only once the supplier has confirmed them and the client has agreed.
The financial consequences are worked out under the rules of each service. Accommodation, transfer, hire, instructor and lift pass may all have different terms. Check the insurance policy before payment.
After the snow come the summer programmes
When the piste season ends, the region does not disappear. Mountain Guide offers summer climbs and treks. But skiing in May is not preparation for a summit: a summer programme has its own requirements, its own equipment and its own plan.
It is worth showing the summer link as the next season rather than as a substitute for a winter service that is closed. A client chooses a new product knowing what it is.
In short: a May tour is sold as a confirmed programme for a particular date, not as a guarantee of snow. Its strengths are the calendar, the hire kit and the flexibility.

What to check before you travel
Mountain infrastructure and conditions change. No article replaces checking which runs are open, whether the cable cars are working, the weather and any restrictions immediately before the trip.

First choose the length and the date. Before payment we confirm the accommodation, the hire kit and every extra service ordered. The basic ski or snowboard set is counted for each calendar day of the programme.

A May day as a sequence of checks
- In the morning, open the official status of the runs and lifts.
- Set it against the level of the group.
- Check clothing, sun protection and water.
- Confirm the time of the local transport back.
- Agree a meeting point in case the party splits.
- Revisit the plan during the day as official notices come in.
The sequence names no particular run and no particular time. That is deliberate: the real decisions depend on the resort and the conditions, not on a piece of SEO copy written months earlier.
The first May weekend and the second
Nothing here assumes that 1–2 May is automatically better than 8–9 May, or the other way round. A later date is neither cheap nor poor by definition. For each one, the resources and the official opening are checked.
If a client can take either, priority goes to the one with a confirmed instructor, room and travel connection. The forecast is checked nearer departure.
A child on the slope in spring
The sun, a changeable surface and a long day can make it feel like an easy outing. What still limits a child’s schedule is their ability to stay in control and to say how they are. The instructor picks a suitable area.
The family brings spare dry gloves, sun cream and water. The child’s set and protective kit are confirmed by size; May does not reduce the requirements.
A plan B, without pretending it is equivalent
If the infrastructure is closed, the coordinator may offer rest, a confirmed excursion or a change of date for individual services. The client decides whether to accept. No outing can be called the equivalent of the skiing that was paid for.
The cost of an alternative, and its cancellation terms, are given before you agree. If the supplier is a different one, a separate confirmation follows.
The photographs for a May page
- The morning layer and the afternoon look are two different shots.
- Sun protection and goggles actually in use.
- The hire kit being issued for May dates.
- Terskol, without pretending it shows conditions higher up.

An extra night after 9 May
The last tour ends on a Sunday. A driver, or a guest with an awkward flight, can have a night after the programme confirmed. It depends on availability and does not automatically extend the hire.
If the kit is needed on 10 May, a calendar day is added at list price and the state of the infrastructure is checked. The price list is still valid, but the tour dates have ended.
A summer lead without cannibalising the page

Holiday traffic is allowed for by leaving a margin before the flight. The particular ElbrusTransfer confirms the vehicle and the time. Missing a plane is not prevented by an average journey time quoted in an article.

Cancellation and postponement in May
If the official status makes part of what was promised impossible, the rules issued to you apply. A client cannot be moved on to a summer programme without their agreement.

The instructor chooses the time and the area on the day. A beginner is given no promise that a soft surface will make things easier. Protective kit and control of speed remain compulsory.
