The short eight-day Ojos del Salado trip is open only to participants with fresh, confirmed acclimatisation. It runs as a group departure immediately after the Aconcagua expedition.
The fast gain in altitude to the Atacama camp is not suitable for someone flying in from home without a preceding high-altitude trip. Clearance is confirmed by the guide after an assessment of your recovery.
If you need a self-contained expedition with its own acclimatisation, take the 15-day Ojos del Salado trip instead.
НаверхAbout the short Ojos del Salado climb
The short trip uses the same Chilean scheme that is already published inside the Aconcagua and Ojos del Salado expedition. After arriving in Copiapó, participants move to the Atacama camp at 5260 m without a long adaptation cycle. The next day the group climbs to Tejos at 5800 m and then goes for Ojos del Salado, 6893 m. That sequence makes sense after Aconcagua or another recent high-altitude trip with an ascent of no less than 5000 m, and it is not acceptable after an ordinary flight from sea level.
Ojos del Salado lies in the remote high desert of the Atacama. A four-wheel-drive removes part of the transport burden, but it does not reduce the altitude, the cold or the length of summit day. The road can change after snow and strong wind. You need to be ready for life in tents or a refuge, an early start, long hours on scree and snow, and a short rock section near the summit where the guide may set up a belay.
Two reserve days keep the commercial sense of a short format: they give a limited choice of weather window without adding a separate acclimatisation block. If a participant copes badly with the rapid return to altitude, the reserve is not used to push the ascent against their condition. Descending, changing the schedule or giving up the summit may be the right decision.
The essential difference between the eight-day and the fifteen-day trips is not the number of excursions but the source of acclimatisation. On the standard route Mountain Guide uses Laguna Santa Rosa, Laguna Verde, the acclimatisation ascents and San Francisco in sequence. On the short product that stage must already be behind you before Copiapó. That is why, before a sale, we check not only your maximum altitude but also your sleeping altitudes, your dates and your recovery.
On a short trip, discipline over pace, eating, sleep and an honest assessment of how you feel matter more than on any longer itinerary.
НаверхOjos del Salado itinerary, 8 days
Day 1. Arrival in Copiapó.
Flight Santiago — Copiapó, meeting at the airport and transfer to the hotel. We check documents, permissions, personal equipment and each participant's actual condition after the previous high-altitude trip. Food for the mountain section is bought. Night in a hotel.
Day 2. Copiapó — Atacama camp, 5260 m.
Final preparations and the drive by four-wheel-drive vehicles to the Atacama camp. Moving to this altitude quickly is only acceptable with acclimatisation confirmed in advance. On arrival: settling in, rest, food and a check on how everyone is doing. Night in camp.
Day 3. Move to Tejos, 5800 m.
The climb to the assault camp and the Tejos refuge. After settling in we prepare clothing, water, food and technical equipment for the night start. The night is spent in the refuge or in tents, depending on actual availability.
Day 4. Summit attempt on Ojos del Salado, 6893 m.
Wake-up at about 04:00, breakfast and an early start. The way to the summit usually takes around 10–11 hours. The route crosses volcanic scree, possible snowfields and a short rock section in the upper part. From the summit, or from the highest point reached, we descend to Atacama at 5260 m. In suitable conditions the group may continue by vehicle to the refuge at around 4500 m. The guide decides according to the state of the team, the road and the weather.
Day 5. Reserve day.
The reserve is used to move the summit push if road conditions, wind, snow or other factors prevent us from following the main schedule. If the attempt has already taken place, the day is used for recovery and to organise the descent.
Day 6. Second reserve day.
An additional weather window and operational margin. A reserve day does not mean a compulsory second attempt: the decision depends on the participants' condition, the team's workload, the remaining resources and safe logistics.
Day 7. Return to Copiapó.
The drive to Copiapó, usually about six to seven hours depending on road conditions. Hotel accommodation, rest and preparation for the flight. Night in a hotel.
Day 8. Copiapó — Santiago.
Transfer to the airport and flight to Santiago. The trip ends once the stated Chilean logistics have been completed. International flights and any additional nights after the return are arranged separately.

НаверхPrivate groups on the short Ojos del Salado trip
The minimum quote is for two participants. A closed group can choose the dates, the number of mountain guides, single rooms and extra recovery days. Russian-speaking support for two people is quoted separately; from three participants upwards it is part of the published services.
A private format does not remove the acclimatisation check and does not shorten the eight-day route. Before we quote, send us for each participant the maximum altitude reached, the altitude of the most recent nights spent high, the dates of the previous trip, how they felt, and their experience with belay equipment. If the group is mixed, it is safer to lengthen the trip or to split participants between guides.

НаверхWeather and season on the short Ojos del Salado trip
The short trip is scheduled for the southern hemisphere summer, when the high-altitude roads are usually passable. Even then, the Atacama can bring strong wind, frost, snow and a sudden loss of visibility. Weather affects not only the summit day but also whether you can drive as far as Atacama and Tejos.
Two reserve days give a limited choice of window, but they do not guarantee the summit. If the road is closed, if conditions on the rock section are unsafe, or if a participant has not recovered, the schedule changes. Before choosing your dates, read our detailed account of the weather and seasons on Ojos del Salado.
НаверхAccommodation and meals on the short Ojos del Salado trip
Hotel accommodation in Copiapó is provided as set out in the published itinerary. The specific property and its category are confirmed in the quote for your chosen dates. The mountain section uses the Atacama camp and Tejos. The night at Tejos is spent in the refuge or in tents, depending on what is actually available; there is no hotel-level comfort at altitude.
Meals in Chile are included as set out in the itinerary; in the towns only breakfasts are included. The mountain menu is built around an early start for the summit and self-sufficient logistics. Tell us about dietary restrictions, allergies and any need for a special menu before we quote, so we can confirm what is available.
НаверхFacilities on the short Ojos del Salado route
After Copiapó the group works in remote high-altitude desert. Vehicle support makes it easier to move the group's load, but it does not create town conditions. Water, toilets, electricity, charging, mobile signal, internet and showers all depend on the particular camp, on the state of the infrastructure and on the season, and none of them is guaranteed.
Bring a charged power bank, spare batteries, a head torch, your own toiletries and a way of protecting your kit from dust and frost. Keep electronics warm. Water and your summit-day kit are prepared in advance. The guides' communication equipment is there first of all for running the group and for emergencies.
