The Everest Base Camp VIP trek is the classic fourteen-day Khumbu route in an extended specification. The price already covers the domestic flights, the transfers to the airport used for Lukla departures, three meals a day in the mountains and porter services. Participants do not have to assemble the core trekking services separately or settle for them daily on the trail.

  • Everest Base Camp, 5,364 m
  • Kala Patthar, 5,645 m, with views of Everest and the Khumbu Glacier
  • Domestic flights Ramechhap – Lukla – Ramechhap
  • Transfers between Kathmandu and Ramechhap airport
  • Three meals a day on the walking part of the route
  • A personal porter – one for every two participants
  • A 4* hotel in Kathmandu and lodge accommodation on the trail
  • A Mountain Guide team leader with groups of four participants or more

The extended package reduces the number of organisational questions and extra payments, but it does not make the altitude easier. Participants still need good physical condition, readiness for long days on foot and acclimatisation discipline. It is the choice for those who value a predictable set of services and accompanied support.

Important

  • VIP refers to the specification of the programme, not to an easier route or a guarantee of reaching base camp and Kala Patthar
  • International flights, visa, insurance, single occupancy and meals in Kathmandu other than breakfast are paid separately
  • Flights to Lukla depend on the weather and can be delayed, so international tickets must be planned with a margin
  • A helicopter flight is not guaranteed and is quoted separately
  • Mountain Guide does not sell air tickets and does not arrange visas

About the Everest Base Camp VIP trek

The VIP programme follows the classic route in the Khumbu region: Lukla, Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Pangboche, Pheriche, Lobuche, Gorak Shep, Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. It is the same full high-altitude trek as the base format, but with the domestic flights, the Ramechhap ground logistics, meals on the walking section and the carriage of most personal baggage included in advance.

The value of the package is not the VIP label but the smaller number of variables during the trip. Kathmandu holds two nights in a 4* hotel with breakfast; on the route there is lodge accommodation and three meals a day, and one porter serves two participants within the confirmed baggage allowance. The category of any particular lodge depends on what is available in that settlement: at altitude the infrastructure remains mountain infrastructure and does not become hotel infrastructure simply because of the tariff.

The objectives of the route are Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m and the Kala Patthar viewpoint at 5,645 m. The summit itself is not fully visible from base camp, which is why the ascent of Kala Patthar has independent value.

There is no technical mountaineering in the programme, but the altitude exceeds 5,600 m. The sequence of overnight stops and the extra day in Namche Bazaar exist for gradual adaptation. The guide watches the pace and the signs of an altitude reaction; participants are obliged to report any deterioration immediately. Reaching the stated points is not guaranteed, because safety outranks the schedule.

The VIP format suits busy participants, families and private groups who want a clear budget for the core services and fewer day-to-day settlements on the trail. If you would rather pay for meals and a porter yourself, the classic programme is the better fit. If time is short, consider the short route with a helicopter section, and for a harder circuit the Gokyo and Cho La variant.

A Mountain Guide team leader works with groups of four participants or more. In a smaller group the accompaniment format and the working language are confirmed before booking.

An extended service package does not replace physical preparation. Regular aerobic training, long walks with a pack and a check of personal kit are needed before a trip with several consecutive days above 4,000 m.

Itinerary of the Everest Base Camp VIP trek

Day 1. Arrival in Kathmandu.

Participants fly into Kathmandu independently, where a team representative meets them and takes them to a 4* hotel. After check-in there is an introduction to the guide, a document check, an equipment check and a discussion of how the porter service works. The day is left without mountain effort so that participants can recover from the international flight and settle every organisational question before departure. Dinner in a restaurant of national cuisine in the evening. Night at the hotel.

Day 2. Flight to Lukla, 2,860 m, and trek to Phakding, 2,610 m.

The group drives from Kathmandu to Ramechhap airport and flies to Lukla. The flight and the associated group transfer are included in the package, although the time and the point of departure are confirmed against the actual logistics. Once baggage has been divided between participants and porters, a calm walk along the Dudh Koshi begins. Sleeping lower than Lukla helps acclimatisation to start without a sharp gain in altitude. Night at a lodge.

Day 3. Trek to Namche Bazaar, 3,440 m.

The route runs over suspension bridges, through Monjo and into Sagarmatha National Park. Beyond Jorsale the long climb to the Sherpa capital begins. The guide sets an even pace and monitors fluid intake, because this is the first significant gain in altitude. On arrival participants settle in, rest and report how they feel. Night at a lodge.

Day 4. Acclimatisation day in Namche Bazaar, 3,440 m.

The group spends a second night at the same altitude. During the day there is an acclimatisation walk with a return to Namche Bazaar; the guide decides its exact length. The purpose is to give the body a safe altitude stimulus, to assess each participant’s reaction and to prepare for stages above 3,800 m. The remaining time is used for rest and for getting to know Sherpa culture. Night at a lodge.

Day 5. Trek to Pangboche, 3,928 m.

The trail alternates descents and climbs, gradually bringing the group into the upper part of the valley. The stage takes about five to six hours. Views of Ama Dablam and the neighbouring peaks open along the way. At around 4,000 m it is particularly important not to hurry in order to arrive early: conserving strength and adapting calmly matter more than pace. Night at a lodge.

Day 6. Trek to Pheriche, 4,240 m.

Vegetation thins, the terrain opens out and the effect of altitude becomes more noticeable. The group moves with stops, rests after check-in and prepares for the next stage. The guide checks how everyone feels, repeats the signs of altitude sickness and confirms what to carry in the day pack. Night at a lodge.

Day 7. Trek to Lobuche, 4,940 m.

The trail climbs to the high plateau and the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. At this stage even a familiar effort needs more recovery time. The porter carries most of the baggage, but participants walk with their own day pack, water, and warm and waterproof clothing. Rest on arrival, and preparation for the longest day at altitude. Night at a lodge.

Day 8. Gorak Shep, 5,164 m, and Everest Base Camp, 5,364 m.

From Lobuche the group walks to Gorak Shep, checks in and, after a short rest, sets out for Everest Base Camp. The way crosses rocky ground beside the Khumbu Glacier. A stop is planned at base camp, after which the group must return to Gorak Shep. The guide adjusts the timing and the length of the outing according to the weather and the condition of the group. Night at a lodge.

Day 9. Ascent of Kala Patthar, 5,645 m, and descent to Dingboche.

In suitable conditions the group sets out early in the morning. The ascent requires no rock technique but is the highest and physically hardest part of the trek. Kala Patthar gives a view of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori and the Khumbu Glacier. After descending to Gorak Shep participants continue down to Dingboche, where the lower altitude speeds recovery. Night at a lodge.

Day 10. Trek from Dingboche to Pangboche.

The group continues to lose altitude down the familiar valley. After two demanding days the walking becomes easier, but fatigue and an uneven trail still demand attention. The aim of the stage is safe recovery and an even pace for the whole team. Night at a lodge.

Day 11. Trek to Namche Bazaar.

The route returns to the greener part of the Khumbu. The stage takes about five to six hours and includes separate climbs, so the day cannot be treated as a simple descent. In Namche Bazaar the group rests while the guide checks the condition of participants and the onward logistics of the Lukla departure. Night at a lodge.

Day 12. Trek to Lukla.

Participants walk the final stage from Namche Bazaar to Lukla, usually about four to five hours. After check-in the local team prepares the baggage for the flight and the guide announces the confirmed departure time. A farewell dinner with the trekking team takes place in the evening. Night at a lodge.

Day 13. Flight to Ramechhap and return to Kathmandu.

In suitable weather the group flies from Lukla to Ramechhap and returns to Kathmandu on the included transfer. The actual arrival time depends on the schedule of the mountain airport. After checking into the 4* hotel participants rest; free time is possible if the schedule allows. Night at the hotel.

Day 14. End of the programme.

After breakfast there is a transfer to the international airport. Participants check in for their flight independently. A margin of time is needed between the planned return from Lukla and the international departure, because delays to mountain flights are possible even in the main season.
