A ski trip based in Terskol is convenient because accommodation, equipment hire and the practical arrangements can all be handled from a single base, while the skiing itself takes place on the open, prepared pistes of the Elbrus resort. Mountain Guide offers three ready-made formats for the 2026/27 season: a 2-day weekend, an extended 3-day weekend and a full week.
All three programmes include accommodation in Terskol and a basic set of skis or a snowboard for the dates of the trip. The lift pass, insurance, travel to Terskol and any extra services are paid for separately. The specific property, the equipment sizes and any extras ordered are confirmed in writing before payment.
Three formats of Elbrus ski trip
2 days: Saturday to Sunday
One night in Terskol and a basic ski or snowboard set. It suits people who already ski or ride confidently and want a short weekend on Elbrus without hunting down accommodation and hire themselves.
3 days: Friday to Sunday
Two nights in Terskol and a basic set for the whole of the programme. The extra day makes the trip more relaxed and leaves more time for skiing, for getting to know the resort and for sorting out kit.
7 days: Monday to Sunday
Six nights in Terskol and a basic set for the week. This format is for anyone who wants to take their time, spread the effort out and leave more room for rest and for changing conditions at the resort.
The current price is on the page of the programme you choose. Do not rely on an old screenshot or on the price in a search snippet: the cost applies to the published dates, the accommodation format and the contents of the package.
What the basic package includes
- accommodation in Terskol for the stated number of nights;
- a basic set of skis or a snowboard for the dates of the programme;
- a pre-arrival form for matching equipment to you;
- organisational support from Mountain Guide.
The specific property – Panda Hostel or Hotel Alamat – depends on availability and is confirmed before payment. The word “Terskol” on its own says nothing about a particular room, bed type or set of hotel services.
What is paid for separately
- the lift pass;
- insurance;
- long-distance travel to Terskol and back;
- meals;
- protective equipment and clothing;
- lessons with an accredited instructor;
- a private transfer;
- single occupancy and additional nights.
An extra service counts as booked only once availability and terms have been confirmed in writing and any required deposit has been paid. A late request is met only if it is actually possible: an instructor, a particular clothing size or an additional night may already be taken.
Who the programme suits
The basic package is designed for independent skiers and snowboarders who can ride safely on open, prepared pistes. A beginner can come too, but only with suitable lessons confirmed in advance. Accommodation and hire on their own are no substitute for an instructor.
Freeriding, ski touring and going beyond the prepared pistes are not part of the basic programme. They call for a different format, the right equipment, the right skills and an assessment of the avalanche situation.
Why Terskol as the base
Terskol makes it possible to combine accommodation, picking up equipment and getting to the resort. Panda Hostel, Hotel Alamat and the Rock’N’Rent hire shop are all here. Even so, the daily journey to the skiing still has to be planned around the lifts that are running and the pistes that are open.
Cheget, Azau and Terskol are different places. Do not choose a programme on the strength of the phrase “next to the lift” without knowing exactly where the accommodation is and which part of the resort is operating on your dates.
Panda Hostel or Hotel Alamat
Panda Hostel
Panda Hostel is in Terskol at 66/1 Elbrusskaya Street. Its official website lists a shared kitchen, Wi-Fi, breakfast, parking, equipment storage and drying, and its own transfer on request. Whether each of these is available to you is confirmed along with the booking.
Hotel Alamat
Hotel Alamat is in Terskol. The hotel’s website carries genuine photographs, contact details and a form for enquiring about dates. Rock’N’Rent operates from the same site, so picking up or adjusting your kit does not mean a separate trip to another village.
Mountain Guide tells you the specific property and the room terms before payment. If a private bathroom, two separate beds, an early breakfast, parking or an extra bed matter for your trip, say so in your first enquiry.
How skis or a snowboard are matched to you
Before arrival you fill in a form: type of equipment, height, weight, shoe size and riding level. This information helps get a set ready, but it does not remove the need to try things on. Ski or snowboard boots should fit snugly, with no painful pressure and no obvious heel lift.
On the spot, check:
- the size and condition of the boots;
- that the skis or board match the set you were promised;
- poles, bindings and that nothing is missing;
- the hire period and the return time;
- the terms for a swap if you find a problem.
A helmet, body protection, goggles and clothing are not automatically part of the basic set. Their availability and cost are confirmed separately.
Getting to Terskol
The programme starts in Terskol. Flights, trains and the long-distance leg of the journey are not included in the basic price. For most people the nearest major transport hub is Mineralnye Vody, but the exact route depends on your tickets and where you are travelling from.
You can book an ElbrusTransfer transfer. To get a quote, give the date, your flight or train number, the number of passengers and your luggage, especially if you are bringing your own skis or snowboard.
The lift pass and resort operations
The lift pass is bought separately under the resort’s current rules. Mountain Guide does not include it in advance, because cable car operating hours and access to the pistes depend on the weather, on technical decisions and on official restrictions.
Check the official information on pistes and lifts before each day. An old forecast, a photograph or a message from a friend is no confirmation of how the resort is running now.
Weather and a fallback plan
Wind, snowfall, visibility and maintenance work can all change the plan. Neither the operator nor the hotel can guarantee a certain number of hours on the snow. A longer format gives you more days in the calendar, but it is not a guarantee of weather either.
If the pistes are closed, decisions about lessons and an alternative programme are taken according to the actual conditions. Do not go onto a closed slope and do not try to substitute freeriding for piste skiing on your own initiative.
What to bring
- base layers and a mid insulating layer;
- a ski jacket and trousers, or a clothing set ordered in advance;
- ski socks;
- gloves and a warm spare pair;
- goggles and sunglasses;
- SPF cream and lip protection;
- your own medication and documents;
- a small rucksack and a flask if you want one.
Before buying clothing, compare your own list with what you can hire from Rock’N’Rent. Clothing and protective gear are booked separately from the basic set.
How to choose between 2, 3 and 7 days
Two days is the most compact option, for someone with experience who can arrive in time for the start of the programme without an extra day for settling in and fitting kit.
Three days is the compromise between a short weekend and a full week. It gives more time at the resort without using up a long holiday.
Seven days is the format for an unhurried trip, several days on the snow and time to recover. It works better for anyone who would rather not spend most of the trip travelling.
Frequently asked questions
Is the lift pass included?
No. It is bought separately at the resort’s current rates and under its rules.
Can I come with no experience?
Yes, but only if lessons with a suitable instructor are confirmed in advance. The basic package does not assume a beginner skiing unsupervised.
Which hotel is included?
Panda Hostel or Hotel Alamat, subject to availability. The specific property, the room type and the terms are confirmed before payment.
Are meals included?
No, unless the written confirmation says otherwise. They can be requested as an extra service.
Can I take a snowboard instead of skis?
Yes. The type of set is stated on the pre-arrival form and confirmed subject to availability.
Is there an airport transfer?
It is not part of the basic package, but it can be booked separately once the flight and luggage are confirmed.
What happens if the pistes close?
How the resort runs depends on conditions. Decisions are taken on the basis of the official information for that particular day; skiing cannot be guaranteed when the pistes are closed.
Planning your journey from Southern Russia
A two or three-day stay in Terskol can require overnight travel, an extra night before the programme and time to get home afterwards. Compare the complete journey rather than counting only the days at the resort.
The sections below cover planning from Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, Stavropol, Volgograd and Astrakhan. They concern resort skiing and snowboarding, not ski touring or a summit ascent.
Compare three ways of reaching Terskol
Your own car
Driving gives you control over departure times and luggage, but the driver also needs rest. A navigation app’s estimate does not account for your stops, winter conditions or a tired driver after skiing. Plan the outward and return journeys separately, and confirm parking with the property where you will stay. If necessary, include a night before the programme or before the drive home.
A confirmed regional coach or minibus
A group vehicle can avoid changes along the way. Treat it as an option only after a specific departure and provider have been confirmed. Check the pickup point, arrival and return times, stops, luggage allowance, minimum group size and what happens if the departure is cancelled. An old advertisement does not establish that a service is available for your dates.
A privately chartered vehicle and a shared departure are different arrangements. Confirm which you are buying, who receives the payment and which services that provider is responsible for.
Via Mineralnye Vody
A confirmed train or flight itinerary to Mineralnye Vody, followed by a prearranged local transfer, can be an alternative to the long drive. Compare the whole journey: tickets, baggage, the onward vehicle and the return connection. Give the transfer provider your arrival details, passenger numbers, child-seat needs and the size of any ski bags. Agree the waiting arrangements for a delay before booking.
Transport to Terskol is not automatically included in a ski package. Check the particular product and written confirmation; neither a city name in an article nor a package duration establishes a transfer entitlement.
From Krasnodar
Three days on site generally leave more room for the journey than a two-day stay. A Friday-to-Sunday programme can absorb some arrival uncertainty, but travel nights still count towards the time away from home. A week may make sense if you want to spread the effort of the journey across a longer stay.
Two days can work when arrival is arranged carefully, for example with an extra Friday night in Terskol or a confirmed overnight service that reaches the agreed handover on time. Leave room on Sunday to return the equipment, collect luggage and reach the vehicle. Do not plan the last lift independently of the return departure.
From Rostov-on-Don
Look at the full calendar before choosing a short package. As an illustration, a Friday-to-Sunday stay may involve leaving on Thursday and getting home on Monday. That is a planning example, not a published transport timetable. The actual days depend on the service or driving plan you choose.
A three-day stay usually offers more margin than two days. If travelling overnight, allow for rest and equipment fitting before a lesson or the first outing. For a two-day stay, arriving the day before can be more practical than relying on a tight Saturday connection. Compare a longer stay if travel would otherwise consume most of the break.
From Stavropol
A two-day stay can be practical for confident skiers who can reach Terskol by the agreed Saturday start. Self-drive and a confirmed group minibus are options to compare. Parking, a rested driver, equipment handover and a realistic Sunday departure still need to be arranged.
Beginners and mixed-ability groups may prefer three days or an extra Friday night. Being closer does not remove the time needed to check equipment and meet an instructor. For a group vehicle, clarify whether it is a private charter or a shared service with a minimum number of passengers, and agree pickup and return arrangements accordingly.
From Volgograd
Compare the cost and time of the whole trip, not just the accommodation or ski package. Include the long-distance journey, any local transfer, luggage and the services you will need at the resort. A cheaper ticket may take more time or leave a less workable connection.
Three days or a week generally spread the travel effort more effectively than a two-day stay. An early return flight can shorten the final day, and an overnight journey can affect the first. A week provides more room in the plan, but it does not guarantee seven complete days on the slopes.
From Astrakhan
A week is usually the more workable starting point for planning a journey of this length. Compare a confirmed direct group service with travel via Mineralnye Vody, looking at connections, rest, luggage and the date you actually return home.
Three days can fit if the journey leaves sufficient time in Terskol. Two days are more likely to work for someone already in the Caucasus or adding skiing to a longer trip. Be cautious about choosing a short stay purely because its advertised duration or starting price looks smaller: the journey remains part of the holiday.
Before you book
- Write down the complete outward and return timeline, including travel nights and any extra accommodation.
- Confirm the transport provider, pickup, luggage rules and what happens if a service is delayed or cancelled.
- Check the package’s actual accommodation, equipment and service inclusions. Confirm meals, transfers, instruction and any other extras separately where applicable.
- Allow time for rest, fitting equipment, meeting an instructor and returning hired equipment before departure.
- Read the payment and cancellation conditions for each booked part of the trip, particularly where different providers are involved.
- Check current resort operations and conditions before travelling. A programme length is not a promise that every day will offer full skiing.
